He won the Northern Section Masters Tournament to close out the year, despite suffering an injured MCL the day before Leagues. At the 2012 CA State tournament, Mark went 3-2 before having to forfeit his last match due to a re-aggravation of the MCL injury. He took 8th at state and had an overall record of 40-10 for 2012, not counting the forfeit. According to the Orthopedist after seeing the MRI, the injury needed about 6-8 weeks of rest to recover on its own, but in order to compete in Sections and Masters and make it to State, Mark had to wrestle competitively just 8 days after the injury. He anticipates full recovery by the end of April. This year in previous matches Mark beat three of the wrestlers that finished higher than him at state (Smith, Goens and Ruffer). He placed 4th at the 2012 Temecula "Battle for the Belt", beating two, top 10 wrestlers, third at the NorCals and 7th at the 2011 Reno TOC. Mark wrestled 215s during his junior year for Chico High School. He took 2nd Place at the North Section CIF Tournament in the 215 lb weight class against West Valley's Austin Lobsinger who took 2nd at the State Championship. Mark's 2011 record was 31-13. He qualified for and wrestled at the State Tournament in the 215 lb class, weighing just 190 at the time.
